Held in conjunction with the Autumn Grand Festival of Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha, the 'Fujinomiya Festival' is a traditional festival held around Sengen Taisha, which is a component asset of the World Heritage site 'Mount Fuji' and the center of Mount Fuji worship. In 2026, it will be held for three days from Tuesday, November 3 (public holiday) to Thursday, November 5. The festival's greatest highlight is the 'Seriai' (musical face-off), where floats and yatai stalls from 20 neighborhood districts parade through town, pulling right up close to each other to compete in spirited festival music (hayashi). The resonance of drums and flutes overlapping with the shouts of float pullers marks the climax of the festival's excitement, also known as 'Kenka-bayashi' (clashing festival music). On the main festival day, Wednesday, November 4, floats and yatai gather around Sengen Taisha for simultaneous musical performances, dances, and face-offs. The 'Fujinomiya Hayashi' festival music that enlivens this festival was designated as a Shizuoka Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property in March 1995 (Heisei 7), allowing visitors to deeply feel the festival's history and tradition. The sight of floats lined up against the backdrop of snow-capped Mount Fuji is a magnificent view unique to Fujinomiya. The opening day on Tuesday, November 3 (public holiday) begins with the shrine visit (Miyamairi) and the eve festival (Yoimiya), heralding the start of the festival. On the final day, Thursday, November 5, the parading of floats and face-offs continue in each district, bringing the festival to a close. During the festival period, vehicle traffic restrictions will be in place in the city center, so arriving on foot from Fujinomiya Station on the JR Minobu Line is convenient. In Fujinomiya, November nights get cold, so please remember to take measures against the cold.
