August 21 is Shizuoka Prefecture's birthday (Prefectural Citizen's Day). Why not take this opportunity to think about and experience Shizuoka Prefecture? Please enjoy a fun time together with volunteers from Shimada and Kanaya. [Learn the History of Oi River & River Crossing] (Shimada Area) Held at the Shimada City Museum on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (cancelled in case of rain). You can experience riding a rendai (wooden carrying litter) while listening to explanations about the river crossing system (kawagoshi). No reservation required; please go directly to the meeting location. Organized by the Shimada Sightseeing Volunteer Guide Association. [Walk the Historic Sites of Kanaya's Oi River & Kawagoshi Kaido] (Shimada Area, Advance Registration Required) Held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM (cancelled in case of rain), meeting at Shimada City Museum. Participants will tour surrounding historic sites while listening to explanations from a former museum curator regarding the Oi River and river crossing system of the Edo period. Participation is free, but museum admission fee of 300 yen is required.
