📅 Mon, Oct 12, 2026 - Wed, Oct 14, 2026
About this event
To commemorate the hosting of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, a flame lighting event will be held in Chiryu City. In this event, children from the Nishi Children's Center will light the "Asian Para Games Sacred Flame - Flame of Chiryu City" using the traditional bow-drill fire-making method (maigiri-shiki). This lighting method embodies the wish to pass on the history and culture of the Arashinkiri Ruins in Nishinaka-cho, Chiryu City, to future generations. The ignited flame will be carried via torches by 8 torchbearers in a torch relay circling Kusakari Park. Viewing is free of charge, but entering the course area is prohibited. In addition, the sacred flame used in the lighting ceremony and torch relay will be exhibited at the Civic Gymnasium to build momentum for the games. The flame lighting ceremony will take place on Monday, October 12, starting at 10:00 AM in front of the main entrance of the Civic Gymnasium, and the torch relay will begin at 11:00 AM on the same day in Kusakari Park. The flame exhibition will be held from Monday, October 12 to Wednesday, October 14 in the 1st floor lobby of the Civic Gymnasium. This event is a valuable opportunity for the entire community to build excitement for the Asian Para Games.
