About this event

September is designated as 'Dementia-Friendly Town Higashiura Orange Month,' during which various initiatives are conducted to deepen understanding of dementia and build a town where everyone can live comfortably. During the period, message cards themed around 'What I can do together with people living with dementia' will be collected, and the gathered messages will be displayed as a giant orange flower field. Collection of these message cards begins at the dementia awareness event held at AEON Mall Higashiura on August 27, and they will subsequently be exhibited in the town hall lobby throughout September. In addition, as part of the 'Orange Gardening Project' at the Higashiura Town Welfare Center, orange flowers will be decorated to express hopes for a town where people can live comfortably even with dementia. Furthermore, dementia-related book and picture book corners will be set up at multiple locations, including Higashiura Town Welfare Center, AEON Mall Higashiura Miraiya Bookstore, and Higashiura Town Central Library, where picture book storytelling sessions will also be held. Courses to train Dementia Supporters and follow-up courses for existing supporters will be conducted, offering opportunities to learn knowledge and skills to support people with dementia in the local community. At AEON Mall Higashiura, awareness events offering diverse dementia-related experiences—such as Orange Walking, a GPS search experience, and frailty checks—will also be held, making it a month for the entire community to deepen its understanding and support for dementia.
