About this event
A traditional annual festival held in Owase City since ancient times to pray for bountiful catches, rich harvests, and maritime safety. The highlight of the festival is the feudal lord procession (daimyo gyoretsu) and street hand dancing (dochu teodori) performed mainly by children from the historic town of Owase City. Children parade along the Kumano Kaido road toward Hachiman Shrine, performing various choreographies to the tune of Owase Bushi and popular songs. Food stalls lining Kumano Kaido further liven up the festive atmosphere. In addition to the performance of Shinto rituals, the local community unites to enliven the festival.
