Baikamo Light-Up

The 'Baikamo Light-Up' will be held in the Samegai-juku and Jizo River area in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture. The clear Jizo River is known as a habitat for Baikamo (water crowfoot), which is rare nationwide, and is a popular spot visited by many tourists every summer. Set against the atmospheric townscape of Samegai-juku, which flourished as the 61st post town on the Nakasendo trail, the precious underwater flowers of Baikamo—which grow only in cold, clear streams—are enveloped in magical illuminations. The sight of lovely white plum-like blossoms emerging from the river surface and swaying with the water is a refreshing landscape emblematic of summer in Maibara. Illuminated colonies of Baikamo, the Isame no Shimizu spring source, and ton'yaba (wholesale distribution station) emerge in the nighttime darkness, creating a magical atmosphere. You can experience a special summer night moment where you can enjoy the refreshing Jizo River and the lovely appearance of Baikamo at night.
