Mount Kannabi Traverse and the Trails of the Eastern Foot
Japanese name:甘南備山縦走と東麓の小径
📅 Thu, Oct 22, 2026
About this event
This hiking event traverses Mount Kannabi, the symbol of Kyotanabe City, and walks along the remaining small trails on the eastern foot of the mountain. The highlight of this tour is the view from the newly constructed "Spiral View Terrace" (Meyama Observation Deck) supervised by Kengo Kuma. While looking down at the Kyoto Basin expanding below, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mount Hiei, Mount Atago, Kyoto Tower, the Shin-Meishin Expressway, and more. In addition, you will stop by the Oyama Observation Deck to take an overarching look at Kyoto's history from the "Mountain of the Gods" located at the northern end of the Ikoma Mountain Range. Because it is held on October 22, the day of the relocation of the capital to Heian-kyo, you can enjoy the special experience of looking out over the former land of Heian-kyo from Mount Kannabi. It is a distinctive traverse hike led by a guide where you can walk the mountain, take in scenic views, and experience history.
