About this event
"Horse Welfare Forum 2026" is a forum for considering a future where horses and humans coexist. In recent years, the environment surrounding horses has changed significantly with the increase in retired racehorses and elderly horses, as well as rising interest in animal welfare. In response to questions such as "What is a truly happy life for horses?" and "How should we coexist with horses?", this forum invites university professors and experts to explain horse welfare in an easy-to-understand manner, incorporating the latest research and on-site initiatives. It offers an opportunity for everyone involved with horses to think about what they can do from their respective positions. The lecturers will be Professor Hiroshi Matsuda and Professor Akane Tanaka, who are veterinarians and professors at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Participants can learn about the latest findings regarding horse welfare, current conditions and challenges for retired racehorses, horse health management, housing environments, mindsets for building better relationships between humans and horses, and what we can do to protect the future of horses. Anyone is welcome, including riding club personnel, ranch staff, horse owners, veterinarians, farriers, instructors, those working with or wishing to work with horses, those aiming to open ranches or petting facilities, and anyone who loves or is interested in horses.
