About this event

At Apika Hall in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, the series 'Savoring Masterpieces on Gramophone' titled 'Showa 100 Years' Nostalgic Master Records will be held as a 30th anniversary commemorative project. This series is a rare opportunity to listen to pre-war and post-war Showa popular song masterpieces on gramophones from that era. Various gramophones and SP records owned by city resident Yuji Hirota—such as a Victrola 'Granada' gramophone and a Gramophone HMV 163 model—will be brought in, playing classic songs with warm and soothing tones. The series is divided into 4 sessions, each introducing masterpieces from different eras. For instance, in the 1st session, Chiyoko Sato's 'Tokyo March', Ichiro Fujiyama's 'Sake wa Namida ka Toiki ka' (Is Sake Tears or Sighs?), and Mieko Takamine's 'Kohan no Yado' (Lakeside Inn) were enjoyed. The mechanical mechanism of the gramophone, which plays records with a spring-wound mechanism without electricity, is also fascinating, allowing visitors to experience the musical culture of the time.
