About this event
The Autumn Grand Festival of Takasago Shrine is counted as one of the "Three Great Festivals of Banshu." Over the two days of Yoimiya on October 10 and Honmiya on October 11, decorated yatai (floats) parade through the old town of Takasago, and on the afternoon of Honmiya, the highlight is the neriawase, where floats clash against one another in front of the Romon gate. Held once every three years, the "Funatogyo" (a Takasago City Designated Cultural Property), where the portable shrine is transferred to an imperial barge to head to the port, takes place during Yoimiya. This festival is ideal for those who want to feel the heat of Banshu festivals up close in Takasago-cho, where old streetscapes remain. The annual ritual takes place in the main sanctuary from 11:00, while the float shrine entrance and neriawase occur in the afternoon. Admission is free for spectators.
