Sengoku Warlord Matsunaga Hisahide Memorial Service

A memorial service commemorating the death anniversary of Matsunaga Hisahide, a Sengoku period warlord and Sengoku daimyo of Yamato Province who made Shigisan Castle his residence, will be held in front of Matsunaga Hisahide's grave on the grounds of Daruma-ji Temple. Matsunaga Hisahide rebelled against Oda Nobunaga twice and is said to have committed suicide on October 10, Tensho 5 (1577), along with the prized tea masterwork Kutenmyo Hiragumo (tea kettle). During the service, the head priest of Daruma-ji Temple will conduct sutra chanting and incense offering, and members of the public can also attend and offer incense. Following the memorial service, a Sengoku History Talk will be held, delving into the transition from the Sengoku period to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the life of Matsunaga Hisahide, and the path to nationwide unification by the brothers Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Hidenaga. Two experts well-versed in Nara's history will speak at this talk event, explaining things clearly for history fans as well as first-timers to history. On the same day, the Ennichi Daruma Market will also be held, featuring quoits (ring toss), raffle games, cotton candy, popcorn, riddle-solving, and more, making it an event where visitors can experience history and culture throughout the day.
