About this event

At Tenkawa Daibenzaitensha located in Tenkawa Village, Nara Prefecture, the "Hassaku Festival and Parishioner Benten-ko Monthly Ritual" is conducted every year on September 1. This festival is a Shinto ritual held in conjunction with the monthly ritual of the Benten-ko association, bringing together local parishioners. Tenkawa Daibenzaitensha is positioned at the center connecting Japan's three major sacred grounds of Koyasan, Yoshino, and Kumano. According to shrine lore, it is an ancient shrine where Japan's first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, is said to have offered prayers to the Manai megalith enshrining Mount Biwa. Counted as one of Japan's Three Great Benzaiten Shrines, it enshrines Ichikishimahime-no-Mikoto (Benzaiten). This festival is an important event for parishioners who value local faith and tradition, and is conducted in a sacred atmosphere. For participation in the ceremony or further details, please contact the shrine directly.
