Japanese name:氏神祭紅葉祭

📅 Sat, Nov 14, 2026

📍 Nachikatsura, Wakayama

About this event

The Ujigami Festival and Autumn Leaves Festival at Kumano Nachi Taisha is a festival dedicated to the First Shrine, Takinomiya, the guardian deity (ujigami) of Mount Nachi. Parishioners residing within the mountain gather to participate in the Takinomiya ritual. During the ritual, autumn foliage from Mount Nachi is decorated before the deities, prayers of gratitude for nature's blessings are offered, and autumn leaf offerings (hei) are dedicated. The collaboration between Nachi Falls, boasting Japan's highest uninterrupted drop, and the autumn foliage is a spectacular view worth seeing. Rituals modeled after historical events associated with Emperor Kazan will also be performed.
