About this event

Under the theme 'Today, Take Time for Yourself,' the '43rd Matsue Castle Grand Tea Ceremony' will be held, bringing together the culture of the tea city Matsue and the warmth of its people. This event is a valuable opportunity to experience Matsue's rich tea culture. Beginners can easily participate in casual clothes, and two types of tea ceremonies are available. One is the 'School Tea Ceremony,' where nine different tea schools provide heartfelt hospitality across nine venues around Matsue Castle, offering authentic tea accompanied by fresh Japanese confectioneries specially crafted by local sweet shops. This requires advance reservation and costs 1,500 yen (tax included) per seat. The other is the 'Hospitality Tea Ceremony,' warmly hosted by university and high school students at the Matsue Castle Uma-damari grounds from 9:30 to 15:00, requiring no reservation at 800 yen (tax included) per seat. For the School Tea Ceremony, reservations must be made by selecting from eight time slots between 10:15 and 15:00. Venues are dotted across the Matsue History Museum, Gessho-ji Temple, Torin-ji Temple, Meimei-an, Hyakusotei, Akayama Sado Kaikan, Matsue Kitabori Museum of Art, and Matsue Castle Uma-damari, allowing visitors to stroll around Matsue Castle on foot. Free shuttle buses are also operated for convenient access. It will be a day to savor the refined atmosphere of Matsue while enjoying a bowl of tea and traditional sweets.
