[2026] Yakage Summer Andon Festival & Yakage Kouta Dance

About this event

Approximately 150 andon lanterns are hung along Honjin Street in the height of summer, creating a fantastic summer tradition where gentle lights illuminate the townscape. The "tsuri-andon" (hanging lanterns), which are rare nationwide, suit the townscape of Yakage and evoke the atmosphere of an old post town. In addition, matching woven hats and yukata are worn by about 50 dancers performing the "Yakage Kouta Dance" to the tune of "Yakage Kouta," weaving a magical time through relaxed hand gestures. The Yakage Kouta Dance will be held on Saturday, August 22, from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Yakage Shopping District (Old Sanyo Road). The lanterns are lit from sunset until around 22:00.
