About this event
In the height of summer, approximately 150 paper lanterns are hung along Honjin-dori Street, and the faint light illuminating the townscape evokes travel nostalgia. The 'hanging lanterns,' which are rare nationwide, match the townscape of Yakage and bring out the atmosphere of a historic post town. To the tune of 'Yakage Kouta,' about 50 dancers dressed in matching braided hats and yukata perform the 'Yakage Kouta Dance.' A mystical time is spun from their gentle hand gestures. This event is held as part of the 'Yakage Summer Andon Festival' and marks its climax. The dancers' graceful dance invites visitors into a profound, ethereal world on a summer evening. In addition, events such as Mizushima Nada Genpei Taiko drumming, belly dance, and shamisen performances can be enjoyed. From 18:00, many food stalls and food trucks will open, and a beer garden will be held simultaneously.
