About this event
The Grand Autumn Festival "Urate Shinji" held at Tamanooya Shrine is said to have originated when Emperor Chuai divined the fortune of his army when attacking the Kumaso in Kyushu. Because its movements resemble sumo, it is also called "Urate Sumo." It was designated as an intangible folk cultural property of the prefecture in 1976 and selected as an intangible folk cultural property for which measures such as record creation should be taken by the nation in 1997. This ritual is also known as a noteworthy service where old eyeglasses are burned and memorialized. In addition, a competition for the nationally designated natural monument "Kurokashiwa Chicken" is held concurrently. Details will be posted as soon as they are decided.
