About this event

Starting at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026 (Reiwa 8), the "Kama Fuchinsai Festival" will be held along the shopping street in Kama, Shuho-cho, Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Originating from the "Typhoon Protection Prayer Festival" of the local Ebisu Shrine, it is also commonly known as the "Wind Protection Festival." Originally starting as an agricultural equipment market, it has a history of over 60 years and has long been a cherished summer evening gathering place for local residents to relax and socialize. On the day of the event, children's portable shrines (mikoshi) and a raffle will be held. In addition, the special stage will feature a marching band performance by Keika Elementary School students, a performance by Karst Soen Taiko, and a pop concert by Akiko Iriyama. Along the streets of Kami-ichi, Naka-ichi, and Shimo-ichi, visitors can enjoy plastic bottle lanterns, hand-drawn paper lanterns, bamboo lanterns, draft beer, soft drinks, target shooting games, illuminations, games organized by local volunteers, ball scooping, workshops, and more. Night stalls and food trucks offering yakitori, grilled squid, shaved ice, hot dogs, and more will also be present, making it an event where you can fully savor the rural scenery and retro atmosphere of a summer evening.
