About this event
Held every October in Miyakubo-cho, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, the 'Miyakubo Autumn Festival' is a traditional local festival spanning 2 days. On the first day, lion dancers, yakura floats, and mikoshi (portable shrines) depart from the shrine, followed by a sea crossing procession from Miyakubo Port. Shishimai lion dances are performed on the sea, and after landing, dynamic 'fighting mikoshi' (kenka mikoshi) battles between 2 portable shrines and lion dances take place. On the second day, the sacred sake ritual (omikitori), land procession, and another round of 'fighting mikoshi' are held, bringing the festival to its climax. This community-rooted, passionate festival offers many highlights and is a precious opportunity to feel the local vitality.
