This exhibition presents the full scope of the "W Collection," built over many years by a single collector. Composed of works by artists who pioneered new eras through original expression, the spirit of the "vanguard" (avant-garde, innovation, and pioneering) lives within this collection. Its inception began with an encounter with Stanley William Hayter, a master of printmaking. Since then, the collection has expanded to encompass the Gutai Art Association, On Kawara, Yoshitomo Nara, and Yayoi Kusama, assembling superior works by artists representing Japanese postwar art. Forming the core of this exhibition is the body of work by Yayoi Kusama. By tracing the journey of her creative career from her early days to the present through carefully selected masterpieces, visitors can survey the evolution of her artistic expression. "Vanguard" signifies the spirit of artists opening new frontiers of expression, while "Love" represents the discerning eye of the collector who recognizes that value and continues to engage directly with the works.
