Set at the Nationally Designated Place of Scenic Beauty "Yanagawa Domain Lord Tachibana Villa Ohana," the summer lantern art event "Kikai Yako 2026" expands its mysterious and fantastical atmosphere into the streets of Yanagawa. Softly glowing lanterns illuminate the Okinohata area, inviting visitors into an extraordinary, otherworldly space. Special space-design displays by artists are presented at satellite venues of "Kikai Yako," including Mihashira Shrine and the Birthplace of Kitahara Hakushu. The event is packed with activities to fully enjoy the summer night, including night canal boat rides along the moats, experiential attractions, workshops, and a bustling night market filled with food and drink stalls. While strolling through the special ambiance of the lantern-lit Okinohata area, visitors can explore spaces reshaped by night lantern installations that evoke local kappa legends and literary worlds, enjoying a rich cultural experience where the mysterious meets the beautiful.
