Japanese name:特別受験合格祈願大祭
📅 Thu, Oct 1, 2026 - Sat, Oct 31, 2026
About this event
The 'Special Examination Success Prayer Grand Festival' will be held at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine to honor the great achievements of Sugawara no Michizane, who is widely revered nationwide as the deity of learning, and to pray that the efforts of all test-takers will bear fruit and lead to successful passing. This grand festival is conducted every year on October 18 at the Main Shrine (Gohonden), commemorating October 18 when Sugawara no Michizane was appointed as Monjo Hakase (Doctor of Letters), the highest rank for a scholar. The period from October 1 to October 31 is designated as the 'Special Examination Success Prayer Grand Festival' period, during which the Romon Tower Gate is decorated with a 'Hiryu Tenjin Nebuta' illuminated float inspired by the Dragon Gate legend. By passing through this Dragon Gate, prayers are offered for test-takers to overcome difficult barriers and lead fulfilling lives. Those who apply for examination success prayers during the festival period will receive a special prayer along with commemorative blessed gifts associated with the Dragon Gate legend (special talisman, special amulet, special votive wooden plaque, and kake-eri neckpiece). Group prayers are also accepted. For those who have difficulty visiting in person, prayer applications by mail are also available. Why not take this opportunity to receive the divine virtue of Tenjin-sama, the god of learning, and entrust your wish for passing exams?
