Nakagawa Dawn 2025: Special History Lecture on "Ancient Mega-Eruptions of Mount Aso and the Archaeological Sites of Nakagawa City"

Japanese name:那珂川黎明2025「太古の阿蘇大噴火と那珂川市の遺跡」特別歴史講演会

📅 Mon, Dec 21, 2026

📍 Nakagawa, Fukuoka

About this event

Geology expert Shoichi Shimoyama (part-time lecturer at Saga University) will explain in detail the impact on topography and environment caused by the "Aso-4 pyroclastic flow" that reached Nakagawa City from the massive eruption of Mount Aso approximately 90,000 years ago. The lecture will also introduce archaeological sites and cultural properties of Nakagawa City built atop the land formed by the pyroclastic flow, offering insights into the relationship between ancient people and nature. At the exhibition, actual artifacts such as the triangular-rimmed deity and beast mirror from the "Myohoji Tumulus Group" and the notable "square-pattern T-shaped bronze mirror" excavated last fiscal year will be publicly displayed for the first time, along with many precious excavated artifacts from Yayoi period jar burials and dwelling sites. Admission is free, but a numbered admission ticket is required.
