About this event

The "9th Saga Prefecture Traditional Performing Arts Festival" brings together a diverse range of traditional performing arts passed down within Saga Prefecture. Seven groups from within the prefecture, including some performing for the first time, will present furyu, lion dances, traditional dances, and more. A colorful array of performances will be showcased, including heroic furyu conveying memories of battle, as well as lively and dynamic dances. As special guest appearances, the Saga Kagura Troupe will debut a new performance, and the nationally renowned Hiroshima Akitakata Kagura (Tenjin Kagura Troupe) will take the stage to enliven the event. In the opening live act, shinobue flute player Kazuya Sato, who composed the motif piece for an NHK morning drama theme song, will perform. Furthermore, the traditional Japanese music trio "Saga Nishiki," consisting of Tsugaru shamisen, transverse flute, and Satsuma biwa, will deliver a special live performance combining solid traditional techniques with rich expressiveness. Media personality Misaki Iwaya will also appear as a guest, and commemorative photos can be taken at a dedicated booth. Visitors will also receive gifts of local specialty sweets and original merchandise from the performing groups. At the venue, guests can enjoy demonstrations of traditional crafts, an Ozaki doll painting workshop, and musical instrument trial experiences. A food area will also be set up selling bento box lunches, light snacks, and more. This is a rare opportunity to see regional traditional performing arts in one place that would normally only be seen locally.
