Saga University Exhibition: "Unlocking Kashima's Charm and Future: Practical Knowledge of Regional Co-creation Expanding from Hizen Hamashuku"

About this event

Held in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture, the Saga University-hosted exhibition "Unlocking Kashima's Charm and Future: Practical Knowledge of Regional Co-creation Expanding from Hizen Hamashuku" is organized as part of the 20th anniversary commemorative project of the Hizen Hamashuku Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Co-hosted by Kashima City and the NPO Hizen Hamashuku and Machinami Association, this exhibition looks back on the trajectory of "spontaneous community development" achieved through industry-government-academia collaboration among local residents who have been involved in the townscape community building of Hizen Hamashuku for over 25 years, Kashima City, and Saga University. It also introduces the achievements and future prospects of practical regional co-creation in a depopulating society that Saga University has developed in Kashima, exchanging views for the future through dialogues and workshops with visitors. Exhibition contents include the developmental history of Hizen Hamashuku's "spontaneous community development", the former Yamanaka Clinic renovation and utilization project, the Hetachi Network Project, Kashima Nishiki weaving and saffron dyeing, gallnut thread workshops, the future of nighttime lighting and nightscapes, local disaster prevention experienced through VR, regional resources and community building from the perspective of the biological environment, medicine protecting regional health, and introductions to international collaborative research with Chiang Mai. An opening ceremony and a regional co-creation forum will also be held to discuss the future of community building together with participants from Japan and abroad.
