About this event

Held in the Eriyama district of Ogi-machi, Ogi City—selected as one of the Top 100 Rural Landscapes and Top 100 Terraced Rice Fields of Japan—the "Eriyama Red Spider Lily Festival" is a beautiful event where red spider lilies (higanbana) vividly color the terraced rice fields, heralding the arrival of autumn. Spreading across an altitude of 250 meters, the approximately 600 terraced rice paddies have been selected for Japan's Top 100 Terraced Rice Fields, the Top 100 Rural Landscapes of Japan, and the Saga Prefecture Heritage for the 22nd Century, captivating visitors with their scenery. Blooming at their peak from mid-September to late September, the bright red spider lilies harmonize with the golden rice ears, making the satoyama landscape even more memorable. Many photography enthusiasts and tourists visit during this time to enjoy this picturesque scenery, which can be called a quintessential Japanese landscape created by the red spider lilies and rice ears. On the day of the event, taking a shuttle bus is recommended as congestion is expected. Since there is no visitor parking around the venue, visitors will park at Iwamatsu Elementary School and head to the site by shuttle bus. The blooming period of the red spider lilies usually reaches its best viewing time from mid-September to late September.
