About this event
Celebrating its 67th edition this year, the "Kannawa Yuami Festival" marks a commemorative year honoring the 750th anniversary of the opening of Kannawa Steam Bath. Expressing gratitude to Kannawa Onsen, associated with Ippen Shonin, three days of dancing, tasting, and enjoying will be held. On Sunday, September 20, the "Kannawa Fair" (16:00–19:00) will be held, with free admission offered to those visiting in yukata. On Monday (public holiday), September 21, the festival highlight is the "Chigo Procession" (11:00–), where cute, costumed children parade through the town leading a statue of Ippen Shonin. In the evening, excitement builds with "Dedication Dance" and "Mochi-maki" (rice cake tossing) (19:00–). On Tuesday (public holiday), September 22, the 2nd annual "Yudan Ichibangake" (starting at 12:26) will take place, where runners dash up the alleys of Kannawa, and the first person to arrive at Eifuku-ji Temple is chosen as this year's "Yudan." During the period, there will also be a limited public viewing of the National Important Cultural Property "Yugyo Shonin Engi Emaki" (10:00–17:00), as well as morning markets and fairs featuring local cuisine. You can enjoy the three autumn days amidst the unique atmosphere drifting with the steam of Kannawa.
