About this event

The Kitsuki Castle Town Moon Viewing Festival is an event where visitors can enjoy a magical castle town illuminated by paper lanterns and moonlight. The beauty and elegance of the castle town, illuminated by the gentle and refined lights of bamboo lanterns and paper lanterns (andon), offers a special experience unique to this season. Originally in Kitsuki, because the feudal lord encouraged tea ceremony culture, tea gatherings were actively held among citizens since ancient times, with paper lanterns lit to illuminate the path for visiting guests as a sign of hospitality. In the same spirit of welcoming tea ceremony guests, lanterns were lit to illuminate the footsteps of people visiting for moon viewing, which remains today in the form of this "Kangetsusai" (Moon Viewing Festival). At this event, visitors can spend an elegant, long autumn evening while strolling through the castle town bathed in moonlight and lantern glow.
