About this event
A traditional Eisa dance held during the Kyubon period in Kumejima Town, Okinawa Prefecture. Various styles of Eisa are showcased by each community, offering a vivid experience of Kyubon customs. In 2026, Eisa performances are scheduled across August 26 and 27 in areas including Janado, Magari, Higa, Maja, Gima, Une, Torishima, and Kadekari. As an event to send off ancestral spirits during Kyubon, Eisa is performed powerfully and gorgeously with drummers, sanshin players, and dancers united as one. It is an important cultural event where local residents come together to preserve tradition and pass it on to the next generation, representing a quintessential summer tradition of Kumejima.
