The Misawa Festival, the largest celebration wrapping up the summer in Misawa City, Aomori Prefecture, will be held again in 2026. Filled with the joint procession of gorgeous festival floats and the unique, international enthusiasm of Misawa, this festival usually lasts for four days. On the night of the final day, fireworks in collaboration with events such as the MISAWA Seaside Festival sometimes light up the night sky. Its one-of-a-kind style, fusing traditional Japanese festival culture with the American atmosphere unique to a city hosting a US military base, has drawn great attention on social media as an 'exotic festival.' From trend-sensitive young people to families, visitors can experience Misawa's heated summer. Key highlights include the illuminated nighttime procession of elaborate floats, and the 'Kenka-daiko' (battle drumming) in the final stage, which boasts particularly high energy and makes for a memorable conclusion to the festival.
