Iwate Prefectural Wide-Area Cycling Route Symposium 2026

About this event

To promote tourism utilizing bicycles, Iwate Prefecture established the Iwate Prefectural Wide-Area Cycling Route passing through 33 municipalities in the prefecture in March 2024 (Reiwa 6), and is advancing the development of wide-area cycling routes leveraging regional characteristics. Now, aimed at promoting the widespread use of the Iwate Prefectural Wide-Area Cycling Route and supporting recovery from the Ofunato Forest Fire, the prefecture's first "Iwate Prefectural Wide-Area Cycling Route Symposium 2026" will be held in Ofunato City. At the symposium, a ceremony will be held to donate bicycle racks made from wood affected by the Ofunato Forest Fire to Ofunato City. For the keynote speech, Yukihiro Takahashi, Representative Director of Arch Hero Hokkaido Co., Ltd. and MLIT National Cycle Route Review Committee member, will take the stage, and regional collaborative research presentations by Iwate Prefectural University and panel discussions are also scheduled. Approximately 100 participants are expected, including cycling stakeholders, tourism professionals, and general prefectural residents. In the morning of the same day, a beginner-friendly guided cycle tour will also be held, taking a leisurely 11 km route while enjoying the beautiful coastal scenery of Sanriku.
