About this event
This is a project aiming to hold the 2nd "Rifu Uma-Uma Festival" in Rifu Town, Miyagi Prefecture, passing down the local history and culture to the next generation. Building on the 1st festival that attracted 3,400 people, the project aims to establish a sustainable festival that will last 100 years as a resident-led culture. Through Rifu Town's three charms—"umai (delicious)," "umai (skillful)," and "uma (horse)"—it creates a culture rooted in the community. The goal is to make a festival combining local gourmet food, traditional yabusame (horseback archery) experience, and local craftsmanship into a 100-year tradition. In particular, reviving the "Children's Mikoshi" (portable shrine) that ceased 20 years ago is set as a major theme, with a strong desire to create a culture where children take center stage carrying the mikoshi, giving them a lifelong summer memory. Starting with zero financial resources, support is raised through crowdfunding with a mechanism where the festival's scale and features expand as more support is gathered, creating the festival together with the community. At the 1st edition, Taste Alley, Uma-Uma Fair, Yagura Stage, and the Rifu Sports Yabusame Tournament were held, with the free distribution of "Tottenage" and the yabusame experience being particularly well received. As an official ambassador, the character "Umanose-kun" was also created to watch over the history, culture, and feelings of the people of Rifu Town for the next 100 years.
