About this event
The '38th Shinkansen Train Depot Festival' will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Shinkansen General Rolling Stock Center in Rifu Town, Miyagi Prefecture. This event opens up the Shinkansen depot—normally closed to the public—offering a rare opportunity to observe up close the maintenance work and facilities that support the safe and stable operation of Shinkansen bullet trains. A variety of attractions are prepared for everyone from children to railway enthusiasts, including mini Shinkansen rides, a tug-of-war match with a Shinkansen train, and bogie assembly demonstrations. Revived events include a tug-of-war challenge with an E8 series Shinkansen and a traverser movement observation. In addition, paid hands-on events such as a Shinkansen crew experience, special depot photo spot sessions, and depot test rides are available to fully enjoy the charm of the Shinkansen. Railway merchandise will also be sold at the venue. Venue admission requires advance ticket purchase through JRE MALL.
