Yoshioka Hachiman Shrine Autumn Grand Festival: Yabusame (Horseback Archery)

About this event

This is an autumn traditional event that has continued for over 350 years at Yoshioka Hachiman Shrine. Praying for bumper crops and prosperous business, archers shoot arrows at targets from galloping horseback, divining this year's crop yield by the number of hitting arrows. Additionally, portable shrines (mikoshi) parade through the town. The sight of archers skillfully riding galloping horses and aiming at targets is nothing short of heroic and magnificent.
