About this event

Held as part of the "Sagae Festival," the largest event in Sagae City, Yamagata Prefecture, the "Sagae Hachimangu Reitaisai, Kagura Evening, and Hojoe" will take place on Tuesday, September 15. On this day, the annual grand festival of Sagae Hachimangu will be held as the main festival. Starting at 11:00 AM at Roadside Station Sagae Cherryland Riverside Park, the Hojoe ritual will be held to show compassion for living creatures and comfort all spirits. The Hojoe was performed until the Edo period, lapsed in the early Meiji period, and was revived in 2015 after approximately 150 years. From 6:00 PM, the Kagura Evening will be held in the grounds of Sagae Hachimangu Shrine, featuring miko maiden dances and gagaku court music performances, offering a solemn atmosphere distinct from the daytime. These sacred rituals are an important part of the Sagae Festival, evoking deep tradition and history.
