Reiwa 8 Summer Grand Sumo Tour: Fukushima Tournament

The Reiwa 8 Summer Tour Grand Sumo Fukushima Basho will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Fukushima Toyota Crown Arena (Kokutai Memorial Gymnasium). Doors open at 9:00, and bouts conclude (uchidashi) around 14:30. In regional tours where attendees can interact closely with sumo wrestlers, various entertainment programs are prepared for everyone from sumo beginners to longtime fans. Along with the match bouts, must-see spectacles not seen in main tournaments include the "Hair Styling Demonstration" showing popular wrestlers having their topknot (oicho) styled, and "Shokkiri", a comical performance demonstrating forbidden moves and rare winning techniques. Interaction opportunities unique to regional tours, such as handshake sessions with popular wrestlers and chances to take photos together, are also part of the appeal. Enjoy the powerful bouts and traditional techniques up close. The schedule for the day includes open morning practice, lower-division bouts, hair styling demonstration, shokkiri, sumo jinku singing, taiko drum beating, makuuchi and yokozuna ring-entering ceremonies, makuuchi bouts, and the bow-twirling ceremony.
