About this event

Held as a special exhibition commemorating the publication of Hitachiomiya City History Materials Volumes 3 and 4, this exhibition allows visitors to view valuable historical documents, illustrated maps, and other materials from the Edo period in Hitachiomiya City up close. Focusing on the Mizumori-Nagata Family and their era, it is a precious opportunity to gain a deep understanding of village society during the Edo period as depicted in the History of Hitachiomiya City. Through the exhibits, you can experience the lives of people at that time, control by feudal lords, and the state of culture and society. In particular, you can also explore important themes that supported the society and economy of the era, such as the regional development undertaken by the Nagata family, civil engineering projects that laid the foundation of the Mito Domain, the development, conservation, and utilization of reservoirs, and the expansion of boat transport on the Kuji and Naka Rivers. In the panel discussion, explanations and debates by experts will be held regarding the heritage of the Nagata family passed down through the History of Hitachiomiya City, allowing you to further deepen your understanding.
