About this event
This seminar and workshop is held as a platform for deepening understanding of the Old Tomioka Silk Mill—a World Heritage Site, Historic Site, National Treasure, and Important Cultural Property—through lectures by leading researchers, discovering new research materials, and utilizing them in future survey and research activities. This session focuses particularly on the East Cocoon Warehouse, conducting surveys, actual measurements, and discussions on utilization methods. On August 22, lectures and on-site commentaries will be given by Mr. Masanori Yuki of the Tomioka Silk Mill Comprehensive Research Center, Mr. Jun Suzuki of the University of Tokyo Graduate School, and Mr. Satoshi Nishioka of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, along with a workshop orientation and an information exchange gathering. On the following day, August 23, workshops will be held under the themes of "Actual Measurement of the East Cocoon Warehouse" and "Considering the Features, Highlights, and Presentation of the East Cocoon Warehouse," followed by presentations, critiques, and a closing ceremony. The target participants are undergraduate and graduate students (generally up to 35 years old) interested in architecture, history, World Heritage, and cultural property preservation.
