About this event
The Annaka Festival is the largest festival in Annaka City, originating from a local community festival. It is held annually in mid-October, bringing together people from children to the elderly for enjoyable interactions. The festival's origins of pulling floats date back long ago; though it was temporarily discontinued, it was revived in Showa 24 (1949). Today, the floats are operated every other year, with floats from each district parading through the Annaka area, meeting and gathering together to showcase their float decorations and musical accompaniments (ohayashi). Furthermore, in recent years, fireworks displays and events near City Hall are held every year, bustling with many visitors from inside and outside the city. This festival inherits the Kumano Shrine festival, which had been held biennially on September 1 and 2 since the Edo period, and records from the 1739 (Gembun 4) festival depict a mikoshi procession led by pulled yatai floats and individuals wearing Sarutahiko masks.
