About this event

Held in Konosu City, Saitama Prefecture, the "Ojuya and Doll Memorial Service" is a traditional Buddhist nembutsu gathering known as one of Kanto's Three Great Ojuya. Set at Shogan-ji Temple, which has ties to Tokugawa Ieyasu, it takes place every year on November 14. A major feature of this festival is the doll memorial service (ningyo kuyo), where dolls sent from all over the country are ritually honored. As an event unique to Konosu City—also known as a doll town—it is widely cherished by many people. The event also features a procession of children in traditional costume (chigo gyoretsu), allowing visitors to experience culture and tradition rooted in the local community. Reception for the doll memorial service is held on the previous day, Friday, November 13, and until noon on the day of the event. This offers an opportunity to express gratitude to cherished dolls and hold a memorial for them.
