About this event

In 2026, the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will be held in Asia for the first time, taking place in the Niseko area of Hokkaido, Japan. Held from August 26 to August 30, 2026, this event will bring together top amateur cyclists from around the world to compete against the backdrop of Niseko's majestic nature and diverse terrain. The championship will feature road races including a 15 km time trial, a 1.9 km team relay, a 140 km Gran Fondo, and an 80 km Medio Fondo. In particular, the Gran Fondo course is a full-fledged mountain route with an elevation gain of over 2,370 meters, running along the Shiribetsu River and crossing the Niseko Panorama Line, Hokkaido's highest climbing section. The Medio Fondo also offers a challenging course setting for cyclists with an elevation gain of 1,572 meters. During the event period, a team relay in central Kutchan and a fun ride event called 'Niseko Discovery Cycling' are also scheduled, allowing participants to enjoy not only the competition but also Niseko's beautiful scenery, gourmet food, and surrounding activities. While famous for its winter powder snow, Niseko transforms in summer into a paradise for outdoor activities such as rafting and cycling, making it an attractive destination for cyclists amidst rich nature and a mild climate.
