About this event

The 'Tateyama Matsuri Joint Ritual' is a 'festival of the heart' that has been preserved, nurtured, and passed down by the people of the Tateyama Castle town. In the past, festival dates were not held on the same day due to the origins of the shrines enshrined as guardians of each district; however, upon municipal mergers, 11 shrines and 13 districts came to hold their rites on August 1, 2, and 3, conducting a joint ritual on the 3rd. Following the Great Kanto Earthquake and the founding of Tateyama Shrine through enshrined merger, it was carried out as a joint ritual of 8 shrines and 13 districts. In recent years, the format of the ritual has changed due to factors such as the declining birthrate, but since 2023 (Reiwa 5), the tradition has been carried on as a joint ritual of 7 shrines and 12 districts. Affectionately known as 'Tateyamanmachi (Tatemachi),' this festival with a history of over 100 years spanning the Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras symbolizes the bonds and culture of the local community.
