About this event

The Naritasan Shinshoji Temple Chrysanthemum Festival is a traditional event that has continued since 1883 (Meiji 16). For about one month, a wide variety of chrysanthemums carefully cultivated by the Naritasan Chrysanthemum Association—including bonsai chrysanthemums, cascading kengai chrysanthemums, and potted plants—are dedicated and exhibited. The array of chrysanthemums lined up with the Great Main Hall in the background is a magnificent sight, and the area around the stone steps leading up from the approach to the Great Main Hall is adorned with chrysanthemums. The best time to view the flowers is said to be in early November; during this period, the temple grounds bustle with Shichi-Go-San blessing ceremonies, and toward the end of the exhibition period, autumn foliage begins in Naritasan Park, making this an event where visitors can fully enjoy autumn in Narita. Access to the venue is convenient, located about a 10-minute walk from JR Narita Station or Keisei Narita Station.
