About this event
Held in Hachioji City, Tokyo, the Hojo Ujiteru Festival is an event focusing on Hojo Ujiteru, a samurai commander associated with the Takiyama Castle ruins. The event takes place across two venues: Tokyo Tama Mirai Messe and Ekimae Terrace. One of the main events is a history lecture by Motoki Kuroda, a specialist in the Hojo clan, titled "The Life of Hojo Ujiteru (3): From the Start of Shimotsuke Rule to the Resumption of Conflict with the Takeda Clan." Attendees can listen to expert commentary on this tumultuous period, covering the expansion of Hojo Ujiteru's rule in Northern Kanto, conflicts with the Uesugi clan, and the resumption of hostilities with the Takeda clan. Advance web registration is required for the lecture with a capacity of 400 people, and admission is free. At Ekimae Terrace, visitors can enjoy swordsmanship instruction and samurai armor fitting experiences (both free of charge) led by the Tsukui-shu Armor Troop. In the swordsmanship instruction, where participants slice soap bubbles with sponge swords, successful participants can receive a certificate of passing. Commemorative photo sessions wearing armor are also available. The venue will also host merchandise and food stalls offering exclusive items such as Takiyama Castle ruins original pin badges, the popular milk ice cream MO-MO gelato from Roadside Station Hachioji Takiyama (Michi-no-Eki Hachioji Takiyama), and event-exclusive Sanpuku dango dumplings. In addition, PR booths from Hachioji City and municipalities connected to the Hojo clan—Odawara City, Yorii Town, and Sagamihara City—will be featured to showcase regional attractions.
