About this event
The 'Akiru Shrine Annual Grand Festival (Itsukaichi Festival),' one of the three major festivals representing Akiruno City, Tokyo, will be held. The greatest highlight of the festival is the heroic parade of a hexagonal mikoshi (portable shrine) weighing over 100 kan (approx. 375 kg) through the town of Itsukaichi. Before the mikoshi is carried out, a lion dance is performed as a herald (tsuyubarai), adding vibrancy to the festival. This festival, alive with local energy and tradition, will be a special opportunity to rediscover the charm of the town. Starting in 2025, the mikoshi procession has been changed to a 2-day event.
