35th Ome-juku Art Festival
Japanese name:第35回青梅宿アートフェスティバル
📅 Sat, Nov 14, 2026 - Sun, Nov 15, 2026
About this event
Held under the theme of 'Showa Retro Ome-juku,' the 'Ome-juku Art Festival' is a major festival jointly organized by shopping associations in front of Ome Station. It is a special two-day event where visitors can discover deep Ome through art while strolling along the Showa-retro streetscapes. Rickshaws will also appear, and strolling the streets in kimono or retro attire is encouraged. In this event, a call for entries for 'Stone Cat Art' works is also underway, and submitted works will be displayed throughout the town on the days of the Ome-juku Art Festival. Ome once flourished as a textile town, and because cats were valued for exterminating rats that ate silkworms and cocoons, it came to be known as the 'Cat Town of the West,' featuring artistic cat motifs and parody cat signs. These 'Stone Cats' are artwork born in connection with that cat town. The event is held across shopping streets spanning four districts—Honcho, Sumiecho, Nishiwakecho, and Katsunumacho—along the Old Ome Kaido Highway, allowing visitors to feel firsthand the vitality of over 160 independent shops lining the streets.
