About this event

Held to commemorate the renovation of Yokosuka Arts Theatre, this is the 17th Friendship Concert by the U.S. 7th Fleet Band and the Yokosuka Symphony Orchestra. As a celebration of music between Japan and the United States, visitors can experience the dynamic sound unique to Yokosuka. In Part 1, the U.S. 7th Fleet Band will give their annual special performance, showcasing their outstanding musical technique. In Part 2, conductors of both ensembles, including Chikara Iwamura, will lead a 100-member combined orchestra in a magnificent performance. The program includes festive marches such as John Williams's "Olympic Fanfare and Theme," Ikuma Dan's "Celebration March" (deeply connected to Yokosuka), and the "Radetzky March." Additionally, spotlighting American composers, the concert will present selections from Bernstein's "West Side Story" and Gershwin's masterpiece fusing jazz and classical music, "Rhapsody in Blue," featuring guest pianist Shota Nakano. This special "American Sound" will be a rare opportunity that can only be heard here in Yokosuka.
