JR East's Yahiko Station celebrates its 110th anniversary in 2026. To commemorate this milestone, JR East, Yahiko Village, and JR East Niigata City Create will hold the "Yahiko Station 110th Anniversary Event" on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The main highlight is the operation of the Rapid "Yahiko Shu*Kura" using train cars from the sightseeing train "Koshino Shu*Kura," which is themed around Niigata's local sake. Passengers can enjoy jazz performances onboard and will receive Yahiko Village sightseeing brochures and kitchen car discount coupons. Upon arrival at Yahiko Station, visitors will be welcomed by Yahiko Village's official character "Mikopyon," the Yahiko Onsen Landladies Association, and a welcoming performance by the Yahiko Junior High School Brass Band, along with the distribution of original stickers. In addition, the first-ever station concert in Niigata Prefecture, "Yahiko Station 110th Anniversary Memorial Station Concert in Yahiko Village," will be performed by the gagaku (ancient imperial court music) ensemble "Reigakusha." Furthermore, in conjunction with the autumn tradition "Yahiko Chrysanthemum Festival," a project transporting chrysanthemums dedicated to Yahiko Shrine via the Yahiko Line trains will also be conducted to showcase local history and culture. At the "Yahiko Station 110th Anniversary Railway Day Fair" held on the same day, children's stationmaster uniform try-ons and merchandise sales will also be offered.
