About this event

Known as the heroic "Victory Cry Taiko" (Kachidoki Taiko), the Ecchu Genji Taiko traces its origins back to the 1183 Battle of Kurikara during the Genpei War. It is said to have begun when Jiro Kaniya, a local valiant warrior who served as a guide for the Genji army and contributed to the victory, held a victory banquet where his subordinates beat drums out of sheer joy. Designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Oyabe City, the powerful reverberations of the drums connected to the Genpei War captivate visitors and inspire reflection on local history. It is an event where you can feel the sound and history.
