Reiwa 8 Autumn Grand Sumo Tour: Imizu Basho

About this event

In addition to watching sumo bouts up close, special performances not seen at regular grand tournaments are must-sees, such as the 'hairdressing demonstration' where you can watch popular wrestlers have their 'oicho' (ginkgo-leaf topknot) styled. There are also plenty of laugh-inducing moments, including 'shokkiri', a comical demonstration of forbidden moves and rare winning techniques. Unique opportunities for interaction typical of regional tours, such as handshake sessions with popular wrestlers and photo opportunities, are also part of the appeal. Doors open at 9:00 with public practice and various demonstrations; bouts for Makushita and below begin around 11:30; Makuuchi and Yokozuna ring-entering ceremonies followed by Makuuchi bouts start at 13:00, with closing scheduled for around 14:30. Merchandise sales will also be held at the venue.
